High-pressure plunger pump overview
The use pressure of high-pressure piston pump should generally be between 10MPa and 100MPa. It is a positive displacement type pump, which uses the periodical change of the volume in the working chamber to achieve the purpose of conveying the liquid; the mechanical energy of the prime mover is directly converted into the pressure energy of the liquid by the pump; the capacity of the pump only depends on the volume change value of the working chamber and its The number of changes in unit time is theoretically independent of discharge pressure. The reciprocating pump uses the reciprocating motion of the piston in the working chamber of the hydraulic cylinder (or the periodic elastic deformation of the flexible element such as a diaphragm, a bellows, etc.) in the working chamber to cause the periodical change of the working chamber volume. In terms of structure, the working chamber of the reciprocating pump is separated from the outside world by means of a sealing device, and communicates or closes with the pipeline through pump valves (intake valve and discharge valve).
Instantaneous flow is pulsating because in the plunger pump, the suction and discharge processes of the liquid medium alternate, and the speed of the piston changes constantly. In a pump with only one working chamber, the instantaneous flow rate of the pump not only varies with time, but also discontinuously. With the increase of work chambers, the pulsation amplitude of instantaneous flow is getting smaller and smaller, and even practically it can be considered as turbulence.
The average flow is constant
Theoretically, the pump's flow depends only on the pump's main structural parameters n (number of reciprocations per minute), S (piston stroke), D (piston diameter), Z (piston number), irrespective of the discharge pressure, and the conveying medium. It has nothing to do with physical and chemical properties such as temperature and viscosity. So the pump flow is constant.
The pressure of the pump depends on the characteristics of the pipeline
The discharge pressure of the plunger pump cannot be limited by the pump itself, but depends on the piping characteristics of the pump device and is independent of the flow. That is, if it is considered that the delivery liquid is incompressible, it is theoretically considered that the discharge pressure of the reciprocating pump will not be limited at all, that is, any desired discharge pressure of the pump can be established in accordance with the piping characteristics of the pump apparatus. Of course, all reciprocating pumps have a pump discharge pressure specification. This does not mean that the discharge pressure of the pump will not rise any more. It simply means that due to the limitations of the rated power of the prime mover and the structural strength of the pump itself, Use it beyond this discharge pressure.

The plunger pump can in principle convey any medium, which is hardly limited by the physical and chemical properties of the medium.
